Government caps rates on Check Card Transactions.
Make sure your rates go down!

On June 29th, 2011, the Federal Reserve ordered a cap on the wholesale cost (Interchange) that Visa/MasterCard and Discover may charge processors for check card transactions.

Based on a $50.00 transaction, the new Interchange cost of check card transactions is 24-cents per transaction, a 45% decrease from the previous 44-cent average. The larger the transaction size, the larger the savings.

This is great news for merchants, as check card transactions typically account for around half of the total volume of transactions they will see in a given month.

This new regulation does not, however, mandate that the credit card processing companies must pass these savings along to you.

Certain pricing structures which offer true Interchange pricing, such as Bankcard Associates Straight Rate Program, will automatically pass these lower rates onto you effective Oct 1, 2011. Many processing companies utilizing tiered pricing, (Qualified, Non Qualified) will not pass these savings through.
